Free Goethe B1 Mock Test: Sprechen (Speaking)

These are the speaking tasks from a full Goethe B1 practice exam — 3 tasks in 3 parts. Read them, practise them out loud, time yourself — no account needed. We time you with a stopwatch rather than a countdown: the Goethe-Institut publishes the official length for this section and your exam centre confirms it for your session, and we do not state a duration we have not verified.

Read this before you start: nothing you say here is recorded or marked. Judging a B1 presentation against the official criteria is an examiner's job; Prüfungsmeister does it with an AI examiner and a pronunciation coach, and that needs an account. Said here, before you spend the time.

3 tasks · no account needed · not marked

What this part asks of you

Two parts, and they're very different. First, you plan something together with your partner — a trip, an event, a visit — and reach a real agreement. Then each of you gives a short prepared presentation on a topic and answers questions on it, from your partner and from the examiner.

The presentation is where B1 speaking is won or lost. It has a structure the examiners expect: introduce the topic, connect it to your own experience, describe the situation in your home country, give your opinion, close. Knowing this structure makes you sound prepared; not knowing it just sounds like talking.

What the examiners listen for

Task completion, coherence, vocabulary, grammatical accuracy and pronunciation — and in the first part, genuinely responding to your partner. Because B1 is modular at most centres, speaking is certified independently and can be retaken on its own.

How to use this page

Prepare the presentation properly, then deliver it out loud and against a clock, without reading from a page. Speaking from notes and reading out a script sound completely different to an examiner — and only one of them is allowed.

Frequently asked questions

Is my speaking recorded or marked on this page?

No. Nothing here is recorded or marked. You get the tasks, the structure examiners expect, and the criteria. The marking needs an account.

How long is the B1 presentation?

A few minutes, then questions. Your exam centre publishes the exact timing for your session — we only state times we can verify, which is why this page runs a stopwatch.

Do I need an account to see this task?

No. You get the task, your time, and the marking criteria with no account and no email address. An account is only needed for the marking.

Why isn't my text marked?

Because marking it honestly means judging grammar, vocabulary, task completion and register against the official criteria — a judgement, not a lookup. Prüfungsmeister does that with an AI examiner trained on the criteria, and that's what the pass is for. We'd rather tell you now, before you write, than after.

Is this a real Goethe-Institut exam paper?

No. Old exam papers belong to the Goethe-Institut. This is a practice paper built to the same structure — the same parts, the same number of questions, the same task types — and it's one of the real papers inside Prüfungsmeister, not a shortened version.

Can I try the other parts too?

Yes. Every level has a free page for reading, listening, writing and speaking, plus one for the full exam. Reading and listening are marked automatically; writing and speaking are shown to you as tasks, because marking them needs an examiner — and that's what a pass covers.
