Free Goethe B1 Mock Test: The Complete Paper

This is a complete Goethe B1 practice exam — all four parts, one after another, with no account and no payment. We time you with a stopwatch rather than a countdown: the Goethe-Institut publishes the official length for this section and your exam centre confirms it for your session, and we do not state a duration we have not verified.

What's marked and what isn't. Reading and listening are marked here and give you a real score for each. Writing and speaking are shown as tasks and are not marked — judging them against the official criteria is an examiner's job, and that's what an account and a pass are for. You're told before you start.

What a full B1 paper contains

Four parts. Reading, five sections up to reader comments and a set of rules. Listening, from short announcements to a discussion with several speakers. Writing, three texts, including an opinion piece. Speaking, a joint plan and a prepared presentation with questions.

B1 is modular at most exam centres: each part is certified separately and can be passed, failed and retaken on its own. That changes how you should read your result — four part scores are four separate decisions, not one average.

Why B1 is the level that decides things

It's the language requirement for the vocational-training route, and the usual entry point for professional recognition, including in nursing. For most people preparing for it, B1 isn't a stop along the way — it's the certificate the job or the visa actually requires.

What you get at the end

A reading score and a listening score, each broken down by part, plus your texts and notes in front of you. Because the exam is modular, these two scores are immediately useful: they tell you which parts you can book and which to keep working on. The answer key, the explanations, and the marking of writing and speaking need an account.

Frequently asked questions

Is this really a complete B1 exam?

It's a complete practice paper covering all four parts, built to the structure of the real exam. Reading and listening are marked here; writing and speaking are shown in full but need an examiner — which is what an account and a pass provide.

Can I take the B1 parts separately?

At most exam centres, yes — B1 is modular, each of the four parts is certified on its own, and can be retaken on its own. Confirm this with the centre where you register.

Do I need an account for this test?

No. You can do the whole part and see your score and part-by-part result without giving us anything. An account is only needed to see the correct answers and to save your result.

Why can't I see the answers without an account?

Because the answers are the valuable part. Giving them to everyone who loads the page would turn this from a test into a list to copy. Your score and your weak parts stay free. Always.

Is this a real Goethe-Institut exam paper?

No. Old exam papers belong to the Goethe-Institut. This is a practice paper built to the same structure — the same parts, the same number of questions, the same task types — and it's one of the real papers inside Prüfungsmeister, not a shortened version.

Can I try the other parts too?

Yes. Every level has a free page for reading, listening, writing and speaking, plus one for the full exam. Reading and listening are marked automatically; writing and speaking are shown to you as tasks, because marking them needs an examiner — and that's what a pass covers.
