Free Goethe B1 Mock Test: Lesen (Reading)

This is the reading part of a full Goethe B1 practice exam — 20 questions in 5 parts, with 65 minutes on the clock, the same as the real exam. No account, no payment, no email address.

A job or a visa usually hangs on B1: it's the language requirement for the vocational-training route, and the usual entry point for professional recognition, including in nursing. B1 is also modular at most exam centres — each part is certified separately. So a reading score you can trust is genuinely useful.

20 questions · 65 minutes · no account needed

What this part asks of you

The 5 parts each ask a different kind of question: a blog post judged true or false, a newspaper article, ads matched to people, reader comments where you decide whether someone agrees, and a set of rules or instructions. Five parts in 65 minutes — the most packed reading section of the three levels.

Points get lost here by reading for familiar words instead of what the text actually says. It costs most in the reader comments: the vocabulary is easy, but the position being argued isn't.

What you get at the end

Your score out of 20, and each of the 5 parts separately. Because B1 is modular, a reading score you can trust tells you something concrete: whether to book this part first, or leave it alone for now.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the Goethe B1 reading part?

About 65 minutes for 20 questions in 5 parts — the longest single reading section of the three levels. Your exam centre confirms the exact schedule.

Do I need an account for this test?

No. You can do the whole part and see your score and part-by-part result without giving us anything. An account is only needed to see the correct answers and to save your result.

Why can't I see the answers without an account?

Because the answers are the valuable part. Giving them to everyone who loads the page would turn this from a test into a list to copy. Your score and your weak parts stay free. Always.

Is this a real Goethe-Institut exam paper?

No. Old exam papers belong to the Goethe-Institut. This is a practice paper built to the same structure — the same parts, the same number of questions, the same task types — and it's one of the real papers inside Prüfungsmeister, not a shortened version.

Can I try the other parts too?

Yes. Every level has a free page for reading, listening, writing and speaking, plus one for the full exam. Reading and listening are marked automatically; writing and speaking are shown to you as tasks, because marking them needs an examiner — and that's what a pass covers.
