Free Goethe A2 Mock Test: Sprechen (Speaking)

These are the speaking tasks from a full Goethe A2 practice exam — 3 tasks in 3 parts. Read them, practise them out loud, time yourself — no account needed. We time you with a stopwatch rather than a countdown: the Goethe-Institut publishes the official length for this section and your exam centre confirms it for your session, and we do not state a duration we have not verified.

Read this before you start: nothing you say here is recorded or marked. That's an examiner's job — inside Prüfungsmeister an AI examiner and a pronunciation coach do it, and that needs an account. You get the tasks and the criteria for free, said plainly up front.

3 tasks · no account needed · not marked

What this part asks of you

Three parts. You answer questions about yourself and your life. Then you ask and answer questions on an everyday topic using prompt cards — travel, shopping, work, free time. Finally, you agree on something with your partner: a plan, an appointment, a shared decision.

Almost nobody prepares for this last part, and that's where most points are lost. It's a negotiation, not a monologue: you have to make a suggestion, react to one, and reach an agreement.

What the examiners listen for

Task completion, range of expression, accuracy, pronunciation — and in the third part especially, whether you actually interact rather than recite. A memorised paragraph, delivered over your partner, scores badly, however correct the German is.

How to use this page

Practise out loud and against a clock. If you can find another learner, do the third part properly, with two people — it's the only one you can't practise alone, and the one most likely to surprise you on exam day.

Frequently asked questions

Is my speaking recorded or marked on this page?

No. Nothing here is recorded or marked. The tasks and the criteria are free; the marking needs an account.

What's the hardest part of A2 speaking?

The third part, where you have to reach an agreement with your partner. You can't prepare it as a script, because it depends on what the other person says.

Do I need an account to see this task?

No. You get the task, your time, and the marking criteria with no account and no email address. An account is only needed for the marking.

Why isn't my text marked?

Because marking it honestly means judging grammar, vocabulary, task completion and register against the official criteria — a judgement, not a lookup. Prüfungsmeister does that with an AI examiner trained on the criteria, and that's what the pass is for. We'd rather tell you now, before you write, than after.

Is this a real Goethe-Institut exam paper?

No. Old exam papers belong to the Goethe-Institut. This is a practice paper built to the same structure — the same parts, the same number of questions, the same task types — and it's one of the real papers inside Prüfungsmeister, not a shortened version.

Can I try the other parts too?

Yes. Every level has a free page for reading, listening, writing and speaking, plus one for the full exam. Reading and listening are marked automatically; writing and speaking are shown to you as tasks, because marking them needs an examiner — and that's what a pass covers.
