Free Goethe A2 Mock Test: Lesen (Reading)

This is the reading part of a full Goethe A2 practice exam — 20 questions in 4 parts, with 30 minutes on the clock. No account, no payment, no email address.

A2 sits between your first steps in German and the level that vocational training and professional recognition actually require. Most people taking A2 are on their way to B1 — the honest question is whether that step is due yet.

What this part asks of you

The 4 parts move from short everyday texts to longer ones: messages and emails, ads that have to match what people are looking for, short articles and notices where the answer sits in a detail rather than the overall gist. The texts are longer than at A1, and the questions are less literal — you're asked more often what a text implies, not just what it says.

The jump from A1 is mostly a jump in speed. The vocabulary isn't much harder — there's just more of it, and 30 minutes goes by faster than you'd think.

What you get at the end

Your score out of 20, and the breakdown by part. That way you can see whether a weak score is spread evenly, or comes from one part you've never practised.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the Goethe A2 reading part?

About 30 minutes for 20 questions in 4 parts. Your exam centre confirms the exact schedule.

Do I need an account for this test?

No. You can do the whole part and see your score and part-by-part result without giving us anything. An account is only needed to see the correct answers and to save your result.

Why can't I see the answers without an account?

Because the answers are the valuable part. Giving them to everyone who loads the page would turn this from a test into a list to copy. Your score and your weak parts stay free. Always.

Is this a real Goethe-Institut exam paper?

No. Old exam papers belong to the Goethe-Institut. This is a practice paper built to the same structure — the same parts, the same number of questions, the same task types — and it's one of the real papers inside Prüfungsmeister, not a shortened version.

Can I try the other parts too?

Yes. Every level has a free page for reading, listening, writing and speaking, plus one for the full exam. Reading and listening are marked automatically; writing and speaking are shown to you as tasks, because marking them needs an examiner — and that's what a pass covers.
