Free Goethe A2 Mock Test: Hören (Listening)

This is the listening part of a full Goethe A2 practice exam — 20 questions in 4 parts, with the real recordings. No account, no payment, no email address. We time you with a stopwatch rather than a countdown: the Goethe-Institut publishes the official length for this section and your exam centre confirms it for your session, and we do not state a duration we have not verified.

At A2 the recordings get longer, and the answer is no longer a single number. You're asked what someone wants, what they've decided, or whether they agree — so you have to follow a short conversation to the end, instead of catching one word in it.

What this part asks of you

The 4 parts include short announcements and radio messages, conversations between two speakers, and monologues where someone explains a plan or an opinion. You match, you choose, and you judge statements true or false. The vocabulary stays everyday — travel, work, appointments, shopping, health — but the sentences run longer than at A1.

The trap at this level is the answer that was true earlier. Speakers change their mind mid-conversation, and the question asks what was finally decided, not what was first suggested.

What you get at the end

Your score out of 20, and the breakdown across the 4 parts. If your marks drop in the dialogue parts but hold up in the announcements, that's a specific, fixable weakness — not “bad at listening”.

Before you start

Headphones help. So does reading a part's questions before the recording starts — the exam gives you that time on purpose, and using it improves your score.

Frequently asked questions

Is the audio the same speed as the real exam?

Yes — normal speaking speed, the same way the real exam plays it. Practising with slowed-down audio gives you a score that won't transfer.

What's different about A2 listening compared to A1?

The recordings are longer and the questions are less literal. At A1 you pick out one fact; at A2 you have to follow a short exchange to the end — and the end is often not what was said first.

Do I need an account for this test?

No. You can do the whole part and see your score and part-by-part result without giving us anything. An account is only needed to see the correct answers and to save your result.

Why can't I see the answers without an account?

Because the answers are the valuable part. Giving them to everyone who loads the page would turn this from a test into a list to copy. Your score and your weak parts stay free. Always.

Is this a real Goethe-Institut exam paper?

No. Old exam papers belong to the Goethe-Institut. This is a practice paper built to the same structure — the same parts, the same number of questions, the same task types — and it's one of the real papers inside Prüfungsmeister, not a shortened version.

Can I try the other parts too?

Yes. Every level has a free page for reading, listening, writing and speaking, plus one for the full exam. Reading and listening are marked automatically; writing and speaking are shown to you as tasks, because marking them needs an examiner — and that's what a pass covers.
