Free Goethe A1 Mock Test: Schreiben (Writing)

These are the writing tasks from a full Goethe A1 practice exam — 2 tasks in 2 parts. You can read them, attempt them and time yourself, with no account. We time you with a stopwatch rather than a countdown: the Goethe-Institut publishes the official length for this section and your exam centre confirms it for your session, and we do not state a duration we have not verified.

Read this before you start: what you write here is not marked. Marking writing means judging grammar, vocabulary and task completion — a judgement, not an answer key — and that's what an account and a pass are for. We'd rather tell you now than after you've spent twenty minutes writing.

2 tasks · no account needed · not marked

What this part asks of you

Two tasks. First, you fill in a form — a registration, a booking, an application — pulling the missing details out of a short text above it. Then you write a short message: an email or a note to a friend, a landlord or a colleague, covering the three content points you're given.

The form is the easier half — and the one people rush most. Every field is worth as much as a sentence in the message, and every answer is already sitting in the text. There's nothing to invent.

How it's marked in the real exam

The examiner checks whether all three content points are covered, whether the reader would understand you, and whether your greeting and tone fit the person you're writing to. At A1, grammatical accuracy matters less than completeness: a message with mistakes that covers all three points scores better than perfect German that covers two.

What you can do here without an account

Read both tasks exactly as they appear in the exam, write your answer, and see how long you took. Without an account there's no marking — no point-by-point feedback against the official criteria, and no score you can rely on.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get my A1 writing marked for free?

Not here — and we tell you before you start, not after. Marking writing against the official criteria is the work an account and a pass are for. Reading and listening are marked free at this level, because they have an answer key.

How long is the Goethe A1 writing part?

Your exam centre confirms the exact schedule. We only state a duration we can verify — that's why this page runs a stopwatch instead of claiming a time limit.

Do I need an account to see this task?

No. You get the task, your time, and the marking criteria with no account and no email address. An account is only needed for the marking.

Why isn't my text marked?

Because marking it honestly means judging grammar, vocabulary, task completion and register against the official criteria — a judgement, not a lookup. Prüfungsmeister does that with an AI examiner trained on the criteria, and that's what the pass is for. We'd rather tell you now, before you write, than after.

Is this a real Goethe-Institut exam paper?

No. Old exam papers belong to the Goethe-Institut. This is a practice paper built to the same structure — the same parts, the same number of questions, the same task types — and it's one of the real papers inside Prüfungsmeister, not a shortened version.

Can I try the other parts too?

Yes. Every level has a free page for reading, listening, writing and speaking, plus one for the full exam. Reading and listening are marked automatically; writing and speaking are shown to you as tasks, because marking them needs an examiner — and that's what a pass covers.
