Free Goethe A1 Mock Test: Lesen (Reading)

This is the reading part of a full Goethe A1 practice exam — 15 questions in 3 parts, with 25 minutes on the clock, exactly like the real exam. No account. No payment. No email address.

A1 is the certificate you need for a spouse or family visa. At this level, the exam is not modular: you pass or fail the whole paper. You can't retake one weak part on its own. So it's worth knowing where you stand, honestly, before you book the exam.

15 questions · 25 minutes · no account needed

What this part asks of you

In 3 parts, you read short emails and notes, match people to small ads, and judge statements about signs and notices. No text is long. That's the point: A1 tests whether you can pull one specific fact out of a short German text — not whether you can read an essay.

Most points are lost in the last part. A sign on a door or a notice at a station gives you very little to work with, and missing a single word flips the answer.

What you get at the end

Your score out of 15, and how you did in each of the 3 parts. One overall number can hide a part you'd actually fail — and at A1, you can't retake a single part on its own.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the Goethe A1 reading part?

About 25 minutes for 15 questions in 3 parts. Your exam centre publishes the exact schedule for your session.

Do I need an account for this test?

No. You can do the whole part and see your score and part-by-part result without giving us anything. An account is only needed to see the correct answers and to save your result.

Why can't I see the answers without an account?

Because the answers are the valuable part. Giving them to everyone who loads the page would turn this from a test into a list to copy. Your score and your weak parts stay free. Always.

Is this a real Goethe-Institut exam paper?

No. Old exam papers belong to the Goethe-Institut. This is a practice paper built to the same structure — the same parts, the same number of questions, the same task types — and it's one of the real papers inside Prüfungsmeister, not a shortened version.

Can I try the other parts too?

Yes. Every level has a free page for reading, listening, writing and speaking, plus one for the full exam. Reading and listening are marked automatically; writing and speaking are shown to you as tasks, because marking them needs an examiner — and that's what a pass covers.
